Forgive this beginner's question but I am having difficulty creating the app using the command:
jiveapps create nameofapp
I have followed all the setup instructions for git and ruby to the letter but perhaps there's something I'm missing.
Currently I tried to run the above command in Git bash shell. Is that the wrong place for it? When I tried the command there
the console prints that the first step was successful but then the process stops and the Shell prompt reappears. If anyone has any insight
into this problem I would be very appreciative
You should not have to be in the git bash shell. You should be able to run this just from the terminal. Would you attach a quick screen cap of what you are seeing? (If you got ouath keys, make sure to xx those out.)
I'll try to provide more info. This was a window's install. Here is the screen cap
The impression I got from the tutorial was that you enter the jiveapps create command in git bash shell?
In any case it prompted me for my credientals and seems to work for the first step of the creation of app but then it just stops
I also tried to run the "jiveapps create xxxxx" command on command prompt and got this message
"Git not found. Please install Git 1.7 or higher ..."
thanks for any help
No, it didn't exist before. I ran a listing of my apps just to make sure. I've tried this with a couple of different app short names and it fails every time (now I've got a bunch of apps listed that can't be used and can't be deleted via Git).
Any update on this? I have a demo coming up on Monday to a group of developers at a federal prospect who are very interested in apps; as part of the demo, I want to be able to show them how easy it is to create an app and install it in a community.
David, what version of Ruby and Git did you install? I just tested it here on a Windows 7 box and it is working fine for me. Can you run through the installation instructions again, and install the latest version of Ruby - 1.9.3-p0?
Windows Setup instructions: https://developers.jivesoftware.com/community/docs/DOC-120
Take care to follow all instructions carefully. Let me know if it still fails for you.
I tried to redo the whole process from scratch, using the version of ruby you provided as well as
Git ver 1.7.9-preview20120201
However the old problem persists... I've tried this on more than one machine and encountered the same problem.
I've followed the instructions meticulously + more than once so I'm stumped..
I think I've found your issue. AppHosting has two SSH keys saved for you, and one has a space in the username. I don't think it works correctly if there are spaces in the username.
I have deleted both keys. Can you regenerate your SSH key in the git bash shell without a space in the username / email, like so:
$ ssh-keygen -t rsa -C "email@example.com"
Then try re-running the jiveapps create command? Since there is no error I'm not absolutely certain this is the issue, but I'm about 90% sure.
